1. Types of User Information We Collect
We and our service providers collect information when users visit our website or create an account to use the Services. The types of information we collect vary depending on the type of user using the Services, including:
- “Parent Users” or “Parents” (including parents and legal guardians of Student Users).
- "Student" or "Student" (a child and/or student using the Services).
- "Teacher User" or "Teacher" (a teacher, administrator or other school employee who opens a teacher account to use the Services, including those with the ability to add student user accounts).
A student user account can be linked to one or more parent users or teacher users to facilitate a continuous learning journey for that student user both in and out of the classroom. Any parent or teacher user associated with that student user account will have access to that account's information, including activities logged in and out of the classroom.
For more information on each account type, see ourTerms of use.
Information collected from users
We collect information from users when they submit it to us. For example, when you purchase a product or service, sign up for our newsletter, or otherwise contact us with a question, chat, comment, or customer support request, we may collect and use the information you provide.
If you submit information about others in connection with their use of the Services, you represent that you have the authority to do so and you allow Prodigy to use and disclose the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
student users
We collect information about student users when the student creates an account directly with us or when the student user account is created by a parent or teacher. We are committed to collecting the minimum amount of information about students necessary to operate the Services.
When a Prodigy student user account is created, we collect student information:
- First name
- last initial
- Location (country, state or province)
- graduation
- Password.
If a student has a class code from their teacher (an alphanumeric code that only applies to a teacher), the student will use that code to connect to the teacher in game. In this case, Prodigy may also receive the name of the student's teacher, school, and/or school district.
Students are assigned a unique username based on their first name, last initial, and an assigned number that is used to log in but not visible to anyone other than the student's parent and/or linked teacher. The student then chooses a fictional avatar name and appearance from a list of options (for example, "Billy Summerwalker"), which are the only ways users can be distinguished within the game, although these avatar names and appearances are ambiguous (i.e. there could be multiple users choosing the name "Billy Summerwalker").
Parent Users
When registering with Prodigy, parent users are asked to provide personal information, including but not limited to first and last name, email address and a password for their account. Prodigy may also collect information about parent-associated student users to link student and parent accounts.
For Parent Users with a paid subscription, we may also collect payment information. Please note that Prodigy DOES NOT store credit card information directly - all credit card information and transactions are stored by our third party payment providers such as PayPalstripesor the App Store through which you purchased our subscription.
teacher user
Teacher users, which include other school personnel such as school or district administrators, must provide personal information when registering for a Prodigy teacher account, such as: B. First and last name, email address, phone number, a password for your account, school, school district, grade, and/or curriculum (for example, Common Core Math Standards).
Users with teacher accounts may also qualify to join the Prodigy Champions Club. When a teacher creates a Champions Club account, the user provides their full name, email address and a password for their account. The teacher may also voluntarily provide their job title, school name, country and a profile picture so they can maintain a more detailed profile.
Information collected from devices and use of services
performance data
When students play Prodigy games or use other Prodigy services, we collect information about the features they interact with, math or language skills they encounter, and questions answered ("performance data"). This information may include data about what activities a student completes, the number of questions answered correctly or incorrectly, where the student is in the curriculum, and how long it takes to answer questions, among other things.
